The Hon. Verity Firth MP and Ruby King Cheque Presentation

The Bicycle NSW cycling event - Gear Up Girl raised $40 000 for the Oncology Children's Foundation. The non-competitive challenge was held in Sydney and Canberra earlier in the year and over 1200 women and girls of all ages and fitness levels took part.

Almost 10% of the money raised was collected by eight year old Ruby King. In 2008 Ruby King, then aged seven, was diagnosed with a very rare form of lung cancer, reported in less than 60 children world-wide. After undergoing major surgery last November, she rode her bicycle 15km in the March Gear up Girl challenge and raised $3620 for the Oncology Children's Foundation. She was determined to ride for research into children's cancer.  Ruby has made a full recovery from her illness and is keen to conquer more challenges!

On Friday 5th June, Gear Up Girl ambassador, The Minister for Women, The Hon. Verity Firth MP, and Ruby King represented the Gear Up Girl participants and presented a cheque for $40 000 to Ross Lewis, CEO of the Oncology Children's Foundation (OCF).
