About Us

The Oncology Children's Foundation (OCF) is a not-for-profit Children's Charity dedicated to helping sick and critically ill children suffering from cancer, leukaemia and other serious cancer related illnesses.

History of the Oncology Children's Foundation

The Foundation's concept was the brainchild of the Founding Director Col Reynolds, OAM. For over 20 years he conducted special tours for children suffering from cancer at hospitals across Sydney.

In 1996 a group of leading specialists pleaded with Col to support medical research. He realised the most precious gift he could give these children was the gift of life. And so was born the Oncology Children's Foundation.

The role of the Oncology Children's Foundation

OCF is the only Australian children's charity exclusively devoted to raising funds for medical research into childhood cancers at the Oncology Research Unit (ORU), The Children's Hospital, Westmead.

Our fundraising activities are governed by the NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing.

100% of the net funds raised by OCF are donated to the ORU where Professor Peter Gunning is Principal Research Fellow, Director and Unit Head.

Our Mission Statement

In 2003 the Oncology Children's Foundation (OCF) donated $70,000 to the Oncology Research Unit (ORU).

In 2007 OCF donated an amazing $2 million. This last financial year (2007-2008) OCF has just donated $2,110,000 to the ORU thanks to the wonderful and generous support of the general public.

Over the next five years our mission is to increase the annual donation to ORU by no less than $1 million every year.

The strength of the research program is dependent on the support of the general public.

Donation funded programs

OCF has funded equipment purchases and project costs since 1997.

Over the next five years OCF will be funding the entire cost of the ORU's five year gene therapy program.

The financial year 2006-2007 has seen OCF donate over $2 million to this program and in the last financial year ended 2008, OCF has donated a fantastic $2,110,000.

Over the next five years our mission is to increase the annual donation by no less than $1 million every year.
